Having been put together during an online music session during one of the COVID Lockdowns, King Vito Speaks and Shae-Vizzy set out to make something fun and energetic for their first song together. Shae-Vizzy was asked what she wanted to talk about and within a matter of minutes, the idea of Brand New was born. Initially, the song was about “Trainers” and both began to explore the complexities that come with every move you make and post on social media. How people begin to question, envy and desire what you have in your possession.

Shae- Vizzy aptly kicks off her verse by saying “Whose that now they asking.. Just came back from Athens” Ironically according to her she was supposed to visit Athens that year but the COVID restrictions and lockdown interrupted and disrupted those plans! Nevertheless, the verse turns its attention to her company of friends who she says look good and apparently, they are “dripped like coffee” and eventually her verse lands on a note of self-inauguration which for her is a show of growing confidence now that she has a voice.

The Chorus aptly captures the mood of both rappers as they both sing

“Brand New Pair of trainers,

Brand new pair of haters,

Brand new pair of ..

whatever comes with paper…”

King Vito Speaks who is no stranger to music and expression enters the verse on the sound of trumpets like he has a special announcement.. stating off his verse with “I express what I am you nah, them man are just angry nah, 111 for the ambulance, you’re hating now cos you had your chance” leading into a couple of lines speaking on the transition he himself is making as an artist and how things around him are changing which has prompted him to Unleash more intensely. Making reference to family and those who have both supported and aborted his journey… He says..

“Saucy, pagans have to support me yup hold tight to the fam that brought me up, we know this struggle wasn’t only us, of course the devil try hold me up.”

Leading into more lines he makes reference to the supportive role Morpheus plays to Neo in the film The Matrix an ode to how he feels distinctly responsible for raising Artists with Substance.

“Felt like Matrix Morpheus, felt like Scotty should have beamed me up. Star Trek Movements still on Earth can’t wait till they see that the beam is Us.”

He ends his verse with the focus being that “They” should have known it was more than passion and more than gassing…
